This Feebay moment was brought to you by the letter... G.

sooooo... I gave up on Eomer... I just couldn't get it to look like him... I have Gimili drawn, and should start painting tomorrow evening... i have a few erands to run... I need to find more of this gray paper stock... I really liked how this Gandalf turned out.

Tonight I also got loads of screenshots from the Sorcerer's Stone, so maybe by Saturday I'll have a few young HP Cards done...

Friday, November 30, 2007

I've been spending some serious time on each of these, most take between 4-6 hours to complete. Instead of trying to do as many as possible in the shortest amount of time... I'm approaching each as individual portraits (as I would any other portrait I'm asked to do). I'm also trying to avoid using any ink, unless I need to, like doing gollem's hair, I just couldn't get a fine enough line with my brush.

Next up... Eomer.

New Original Artwork Sneak Peek

This started off as a doodle and has evolved into something more... I really like where this is heading.

After 4 years (originally drawn 9-03) I finally get around to working [ these ] into something more, I'd like to do an entire series on them....

on the subject of sketch cards...

While at GenCon, I made the decision, that after I finish my current two sketch card jobs, I will not be actively looking for sketch card work. I feel like this past year I've been side tracked from my original goals, there just hasn't been enough time for any new artwork to add to my portfolio, and I've noticed a decline in my print sales... I need to get back on track.

So, looking forward... by Convention Season next year I'm hoping to have tons of new work... a new series of mini paintings & mini prints, cellphone charms, necklaces, notecards and bookmarks. Several large paintings have already been planned out (18x24 - yes, for those who have been patiently waiting... 'Adament'). I also have set aside time to add my prints back to my website. And my sister and I have some wearable ideas we need to toss around more. It's all good stuff.

The most important thing is I need to get back to my original goals... getting into the Gaming Industry and merchandising my OWN work.

my personal favorite was eowyn, I love doing long flowing hair. and this one worked out very well.

New Photo Print Available

A few weeks ago we had lots and lots of rain, one of the nicer days I went outside looking for the bunny and found these all over my back yard.

Sadly the 30+ shots I took, and only this one was worth showing.

So... it's a print [ here ], if you're into that sorta thing.

Last Show of the Season...

Just a reminder, I know it's early, but...
I will be at the [ Chicago Non-Sports Expo ] October 5th & 6th. Which is a Friday & Saturday I believe... Check out the link for more information. Hope to see ya'll there.

GenCon 07

was a major disappointment I knew just as soon as I saw where I was seated this was going to suck. Who ever made up the seating chart for the artshow should be fired. They had some people facing walls, and others stuck completely out of view (which is where I was). I needed to make a certain amount to even call this show worth while. I heard lots of other artists were pretty much in the same boat.

Thursday came by ^__^, it was great to see her & her hubby again. Bill Wilkison and his wife Cathy also came out, they got to experience GenCon for the first time and afterward we ate dinner at the Hardrock Cafe and had just a wonderful time. It was awesome to see them again after not seeing them at all this year, I just love them to bits.

Friday night we ( Laura, Matt, Nigel (and his harem) Me & Pat ) got to hang out with Larry Elmore and Mark Poole, which was just awesome! Also I got to talk to Major Victory and Diamond Girl again. I didn't know till after I had read Chris Watters bio that he was in CSI NY... so... I'll be doing a few official sketch cards of him for the CSI NY series =)

Saturday (possibly even Friday) Brooke & her Hubby stopped by, it was awesome to see the two of them again too.Saturday Night we (Nigel, Jazmine & her S/O, Dave, Dave (the originial), Spike, Me & Pat went for sushi @ Sushi on the Rocks... it was a good time ^__^ service was a bit slow, but none the less... a great time.

Sunday. A bunch of us had Larry arrested and hauled off to the Klingon Jail... I have video footage of him singing the ittsy bittsy spider, BUT... I forgot to turn on the microphone. =( as people were passing by they were paying just to keep Larry in jail 5 minutes longer.

Also so many people from MySpace stopped by, *waives*. It was great to really meet ya'll!

I may have a few new leads, which I hope pan out... I'm kinda tired of doing sketch cards, and really miss making real artwork. So the Marilyn job I finished last week will most likely be the last job I do for Breygent because those full color art card just take too long to finish. I'll be sticking to just black & white. Hopefully that will free me up to 1. get my prints back on my website, and 2. make lots of new artwork for the shows next year. Because I haven't made any new artwork this year (besides Satori and Return to me - which isn't even new just a revamp) I'll be able to clear out some of those ideas that have been filling up my head.

I didn't take too many pictures... but some of them are below:

Today... must finish up Heroes & then start CSI NY.

Marilyn has left the building...

This was one of the most difficult jobs I've had to do... It's mentally challenging to sit there and draw the same picture 75+ times. I'm glad it's done and off to the AD.

Also... Wizard World was pretty decent this year, I made back my table fees on Friday which is almost unheard of at any show. Saturday was pretty much the same as Friday. It was lots of fun.

Chicagoland Z (in review)

I really didn't have high hopes for this show, especially with Zurko's track record of canceling at the last minute. Many vendors were upset at the promise of 10k attendees, in actuality there may have been some where around 300 (probably far less). I met Larry who was at the booth next to mine, is a custom framer and mat cutter, he did some amazing things I hadn't thought of with my artwork and prints. And I finally met Paul from Chicagoland Entertainment Collectors Expo, My Very First GUEST Appearance, if you're in the Chicago area, you should come to this show; there are going to be some amazing artists and guests!

I drew this sketch card of Arwen while at my booth...

She didn't sell at the show (I really didn't think she would) so on Monday, she was on feebay for a whole 20 minutes, which I think was the fastest sale I've ever had there.

Kinko's Ain't Nothing but a Migraine

You wonder... if it's standard procedure for Kinko's to hire jerks to run their stores? It seems every single time I go in to have work done, their employees feel the need to tell me my business or tell me what I can or cannot do with the items being produced, or god forbid they have to do a little work and want to charge me extra because my files are not arranged in order on my disk.

This was the last straw, I have officially fired Kinko's from my list of vendors. There is only so much crap a freelance illustrator can put up with from someone who's supposed to be working for me.

So my advice to any freelance artists and illustrator out there is..

Save yourself the headache, avoid Kinko's at all costs, and find a REAL PRINTER to have your work printed and or laminated.

Geneseo Music & Craft Festival (Recap* ... Also ChicagolandZ

This is the only craft show I enjoy doing. The temp's this weekend were HOT, HOT, HOT... but we had a nice shady spot. The crowd was wonderful, it was great seeing people I had met from last year. Thank you so much for stopping by to talk to me, and if you purchased a print, many many thanks! And a very special thank you goes out to the new owner of Gandalf & Gollum, 2 of my 6 returned cards from Topps.

ChicagolandZ: I wasn't going to, but I decided to go ahead and do it anyway, mainly because it's only going to cost 45.00, I swear the info I got in the mail months ago said 150.00, which is why I wasn't going to do it. Anyway, it's this weekend (June 22, 23, & 24) but I'll only be there on Saturday & Sunday.

Which means... I have a print order to put in, and I need to get my table banner laminated. O_o I'm glad this one is so close, I hate dumping my cats on my parents again.

Another Sketch Card Commission Finished.

really, there were 3 total in this order... this is the first (two left to do).

Yesterday I had some sketch cards printed up on watercolor paper, and I think from now on, I'll be painting them instead of what I've been doing (colored pencil/ink on that brown paper).

Interested in a painted sketch card? Starting price is 30.00.
