Goodbye 2015 Hello 2016!

I'm not going to post any resolutions (they're pointless anyway), what I am going to do is list somethings I'd like to get done this year.
Illustrate some sort coloring book, I'm thinking Cats, Dragons, Mythical Creatures (Western or Greek/Roman), or Mad Max themed.

I will be doing more cat illustrations this coming year. Based on the style of my FuzzyButt Christmas Card this year.

I will be doing more illustrations like my Three Wee Witches. Little animals doing human things...

Definitely need to explore this Post Apocalyptic idea I've had rumbling around in my head since Fury Road.

Need to get back into doing my own illustrations for my online stores (Society 6, Zazzle, etc).

Lots of Art & Illustration planned for 2016!

Star Trek Next Generation Artist Returns...

This week I finally got my Artist Returns from Rittenhouse for the Star Trek Next Generation set I worked on.

I was surprised to get the Prime Minister Nyrok card back, at one point I thought our returns got mixed up and so I thought I switched out Boothby for Nyrok.

They available for purchase in my store with FREE shipping anywhere.

Winter Warlock

You know what really sucks?  Doing a drawing to make a video only to find out that something glitched out and the 30+ minutes you spent drawing and inking an image didn't get recorded.

I mean - I hit record, the program indicated that it was recording, I could see everything on my monitor and it looked good. The drawing only took me a half hour even with the inking. I stayed in frame, I showed close ups and everything. When I was done I hit 'stop' it acted like it was saving. So I take some pictures with my camera to make custom thumbnails in photoshop. I open sony vegas, and... nothing.   So below is the awesome thumbnail and below that is a shot of my drawing and the reference I used.

I may just go ahead and redraw it and color it this time, I really like how the drawing turned out.  Been trying to get used to my [ brush pen ] and working from a reference on my tablet.  Hopefully I'll have another video in a week or so. =)

Don't forget to follow me on [ instagram ] for (mostly) daily art updates.

Forest Creature - New Art

A photo posted by Connie (@connie_faye) on

It seems like October's Drawlloween kinda primed the creative wheels. I need to flesh it out a little more, and work on the background and I may just paint it. My list of paintings to do during this off season is growing.

Drawlloween 2015 Limited Edition Sketchbook

A video posted by Connie (@connie_faye) on

First off, this sketchbook Limited Edition, I'm limiting it to the number of pre-orders that come in, I will NOT be making any extras. I am accepting orders till November 20, then the listing comes down.

I massively enjoyed this monthly challenge, I made all the way through, and created 31 drawings. You'll notice there isn't a day 21, because, honestly, I was utterly stumped. But there are two drawings for day 7.

Sketchbook Specs:
Pages: 20 interior pages, printed on 60# Bright White cover stock.
Cover: Full bleed gloss.
Size: 5.5 x 8.5 inches
Binding: Saddle Stitch
Assembled & Packaged by me.

Place your order HERE!

By the way, this is the ONLY sketchbook I'll be producing for 2015. I'm hoping next year is a different story, but we'll see.

Monday, November 02, 2015

This year it marks the end of Drawlloween, a month long drawing challenge, which I found massively fun and very inspiring; so much so I have 3 maybe 4 new illustrations to do from my Drawlloween Sketches. Also November marks the end of show season for me, my last show was ToyCon in Bridgeview IL on Nov 1st.

This is when the real work begins. Every artist craves change during their career, either subject matter, mediums used, a need to experiment more, I think I'm at that point again. I'll be totally revamping my gallery, retiring old work to make way for new. Also I'll be concentrating more on new illustrations for merchandise in my stores. Mainly Society 6, Zazzle, Redbubble, Tee Public & my new Threadless Shop. I'm also thinking of taking my 'art cards' to a new level, I need to experiment to see if what's in my head is actually doable.

If you missed any of my Drawlloween postings on Instagram, Tumblr, Twitter or Facebook here they are:

I will be making a Limited Edition Sketchbook of these drawings Limited to the number of pre-orders I receive, I will not be making any extra copies of this book.

Deadline is Nov. 20, 2015.

I will also be listing the remaining sketches in my store this coming week.

Remember I am always posting updates on instagram.

So, till next time.

Wheaton Haunted Halloween Flea Market...

All in all, last nights Haunted Halloween Flea Market show was pretty decent. Where I was located at, was windy as hell but, the people were great, sales were good, and my 'Three Wee Witches' found a home with a lovely lady. She so smitten with it, that after she bought it she gave me a hug. That kinda made my night. So if given the opportunity next year, I will do this show again. Huge thanks to Jimmy for all of the hard work he does to make sure things go smooth for us artists.

Prints are available [ HERE ].

LAST SHOW of 2015.

The All Night Flea Market - Aug 15th. [Recap]

I remember finding out about this show last year, but I was apprehensive about doing a show that ended at 3am, I thought I'd have a hard time staying awake. It wasn't so bad. I was in the first row called 'Star Alley'. Our little area was pretty packed the entire night. Sales were pretty slow till about midnight, I think that's when my people started filtering in. A few originals got new homes. I even saw the manager from my old day job, I know he was pretty surprised to see me.

I drew a quicky portrait of Lisa Loring as Wednesday, about a minute after I finished the sketch, the traffic in our row kinda died down so I ran over to give it to her. I didn't even think to take a photo of it, I just wanted to get over there before we had another flood of people. She was wonderful, and wanted to give me a signed picture. Growing up (and even now) The Addams Family is one of my favorite TV shows.

Since our row was a wall of people most of the night I really wasn't able to get too many pictures (as you can see below). The pictures I did take were early on, not long after set up. There was a local tv/cable/podcast host shuffling about in costume as Ozzy Osbourne. He did it well! =)

to everyone that made this show worth while,
without your support I wouldn't be able to keep doing these shows.

Next Show: September 11-13 2015 CECE - 1st Annual Fall Festival Carol Stream IL.

Hope to see you there!

Comcast /XFinity Discontinuing Photo Hosting Feature for subscribers.

As of Oct 8, 2015 Comcast will discontinue it's Personal Web Page / Online Photo Storage feature. I've been using it since 2003-2004, because it was a feature INCLUDED in my internet service plan. I knew it wouldn't last forever, but, one could only hope that a company as large as comcast / xfinity wouldn't start cutting features like this from their subscribers. Apparently it's not cost effective to give customers services like this, it's too much trouble for them to keep it on.

I guess it's time to look around for places to host my website images. I have everything already on my computer, so I'm not in any danger of losing anything, BUT I'll need to find a reliable alternative since I only need a hosting for a few things.

So after October, if you go back and view any older entries that are NOT linked with my instagram or tumblr accounts, you may notice broken images. I will not be going back to fix them, I just don't & won't have the time to do it.

If google gets rid of blogger/blogspot I'm really in trouble.

I've been working on my website....

This past week I've been working on getting my site updated. So far I've added a nifty drop down menu, broken apart my galleries, and added links to all of my online stores. I've also been trying to figure out the easiest way to display all of the sketch cards I've done over the years. The biggest (most cards I've done for one set) by far has been Lord of the Rings Masterpieces, I've been trying to decide if a flash gallery is worth the hassle... as it is I'm leaning towards just doing a light box gallery.  Might be the fastest way to get it done.

I wasn’t sure about doing this, only because I wasn’t really familiar with the service.  I fell into a conversation Saturday and really started looking into it and how to go about setting up rewards and whatnot.  Then spent the majority of last night and today coming up with my own rewards.

I think this could possibly be the most rewarding way to support the creative professionals you like.

If you become my patron, you will have access to exclusive sales, monthly goodie packages, first looks on new work, and sketches, dibs on new work before I list them in my store, discounts on commissions and in my store and higher tiered pledges get access to no wait list commissions.

Rockatansky's Fix-it Shop on Tee Public by ConnieFaye

Since I couldn't figure out the Tee Fury uploading requirements, (seriously, their requirements are two different things, which it CANT be, 640x800 and 300 dpi at 3500 x 3500, how is that helpful?)  So... I went and made an account over at Tee Public.

Slightly cheaper than Society 6, but I'm not sure of the quality.  If I can find a video on youtube that has better instructions on the file requirements for uploading to Tee Fury, that'll be coming along soon. If not... (and yes I've already looked on their forums, which are equally unhelpful.).

The new Mad Max: Fury Road has brought back my love of everything Post Apocalyptic. So much so that I feel like I had an epiphany regarding where I need to go with my art (which for the past handful of years I’ve been unhappy with).  I've always struggled with the fufuness of dresses and whatnot of the gothic / fantasy type art I've been trying to do.  That stuff just does NOT come naturally and I need to pour over fashion magazines to get any inspiration.

So inspired by these two:  [ Furiosa ] [ The Valkyrie ]

I have so many ideas right now... need to power thru these commissions and then let these ideas spill out onto the paper.

I feel really good about this new direction, I just can't wait to get started.

The New York Times wrote, “Miller has reminded us that blockbusters have the potential to not only be art, but radically visionary – even the fourth in a series. What a lovely day, indeed.”

I am in LOVE with this movie. I feel like this is the movie I have been waiting my entire life to see. The action, the acting, the editing, the cinematography, the story was strong from start to finish, it is unapologetic and beautiful. Too many movies lose steam and lag near the end, so many have ‘meh’ endings I just skip over them. Furiosa is such a powerful character, she is as tough and as capable as Max. The story is a human story, not just about men or women, but of survival, hope & redemption.  There’s no power struggle between the two main characters, there is trust. There were no pointless love scenes anywhere in this movie to undermine the lead female character.  I loathe when they over-sexualize a female lead, so much so I’ll just stop watching. I don’t know if “they” think a certain portion of the view population expects that, or what, but I find it demeaning to the female character and to the audience.

And the Vuvalini, are glorious.

I’m hoping this movie is a HUGE success and opens the door for more movies of this caliber.  Hopefully it starts some serious discussion in Hollywood and turns the tides and changes how women are portrayed in movies & the media.

Grimm S2 Sketch Cards by Connie Faye

I totally forgot to post this.

Personally my favorites were Blutbad Monroe, Hank, Ziegevolk (the goat wesen that ate toads in the upper left hand corner), Wendigo (top row 3rd from right) and the Gypsy that helped Adalind get her powers back (I just can't remember the actress' name.)

Earlier in the year I was contacted by a production company that does shows for Discovery Networks.  They wanted to use my art because Vernon Wells was going to be a guest on the show.

My thought was that they couldn’t get or wouldn’t pay for licensing to use actual stills from the movie, so they opted for fan art (mine) they found on DeviantArt.

While I’m stoked they used it, I’m disappointed that they didn’t give me any sort of credit for it.

Small update...

So far this year is off to a good start.  I've been busy busy busy!!!!

I'm currently working on a Sketch Card Contract, so I can't say any more than that.  But I can say, I've been messing around with watercolor ground and liquid watercolors; and have found the perfect balance!  So from now on I'll be painting my contracted cards!  I'm so happy, because I'm so much more comfortable painting than I am with markers.

• Grimm S2 Sketch Cards have been released, in the next few weeks I'll start listing my AP'.s on Feebay.

• I have a few commissions on the waiting list, I can't really do much with them till I get my contracted work finished.

Today I took a small break from my contracted work to make an updated youtube channel trailer.
